a week till varsity starts: rugby photos from last semester
In a weeks time varsity starts again so I’ll be heading out with my camera for “die Kampus Burger”. Over the past few months (last semester) I was freelancing for “die Kampus Burger” covering mostly rugby but here and there some other events as well. This post covers mainly some of the sport I covered and some photos I haven’t post yet. These were all shot with my 350d. I am really looking forward to getting out there with my 7d.
Thank you to the die hard’s who continuously visit my blog, and a thank you to the new visitors as well! You can find my contact information under the contact tab on the top of this page or look me up on facebook. Hope you enjoy the photos!

Cape Town: on foot
a while back Jandré and I headed out to Cape Town to get some photos. I set out to do some street photography. We mostly moved around the Long and Loop street areas and later ventured towards the Ferrari garage. This was the first time I photographed Ferrari’s and also the first time visiting the Ferrari garage. We weren’t there 10 mins when one of the employees came outs saying that I may not take photos of the cars standing outside as it belongs to some of their clients. (I did get a few frames though). I though o well it was nice to be there but then he invited us in to photograph some cars in the back. I think walking into a garage with 10+ brand new Ferrari’s and some masterpieces is any boys dream – some of my favorites are below.
A while later we also went by the train station to drop off some friends. Here I also to a few frames I like because they are natural – not posed and all make use of natural light coming in from outside and reflecting of the white floors. Have a look at the one with the guy sitting against the pillar with the lady mopping to the right. thats natural light on her face coming from the floor below and helped by a light against the piller infornt of her.

Wilgenhof Carry six Packer 2010
What a night. The The Pretty Blue Guns, Tidal Waves, Zinkplaat and FPK at Wilgenhof res in Stellenbosch for the annual Wilgenhof Carry 6 Packer. Everything was quite chilled untill FPK hit the stage..they broke down the whole laid back vibe very quickly.

Seeing that all activities, like sport, are on its way at the Univeristy there are alot of photographic oppertunities just waiting to be caputerd. It also allows one to improve your technique. So just go out there and shoot! Like many other things in life, the more you shoot the faster you improve.
I visited koshuis/res rugby. Photos I like are posted here and photos in which you can tag youreself on my facebook fan page (see a link on the right). In this post – Eendrag and Wilgenhof – separate games.

FPK @ Kirstenbocsh-Summer-Concerts-24 Jan 2010
Sunday at Kirstenbosch it was time for some leaves to stir.. I went to get some photos of the people attending FPK @ the kirstenbosch summer concerts as well as one or two of FPK for the JIP. When I got there I saw that the stage was made higher somewhere between me attending the previous FPK show here and now. This posed a few problems but in the end I liked what I got.

Jool-RAG-2010-vensters-Stellenbosch
Jool/RAG was crazy this year. This was my first time taking photos here. Trollies went quite well but vensters.. the light conditions made it a real challenge. You just have to adapt and figure out what will work and I can say Im happy with the result. (see pictures below). Tommorow (23 Jan ’10) its time for vlotte and if vensters was anything to go by there will be thousands of people there as well. Dont forget about ATKV Maties Jool Fees/RAG Fest 2010 happening at die Braak with the following bands:
10h00 – Autumn of August
11h00 – 3rd World Spectator
12h00 – Seisoen Na Somer
13h00 – Dear Client
14h00 – Glaskas
15h00 – Louwtjie Rothman
16h00 – eF-eL
17h00 – Van Coke Kartel
18h00 – Die Heuwels Fantasties
19h00 – Taxi Violence
20h00 – Straatligkinders
I’m fortunate enough to be able to go and see and photograph Fokofpolisiekar at the Kirstenbosch summer concert on Sunday, something which makes up for missing tomorrow. Remember to get back here and have a look at those photos!

dirt bikes-zone 7-28 Nov 2009
Saturday Chantelle and I visited Zone 7 off road biking park for the first time and it was excellent for photo oppertunities, definitely have to go back. Extreme sports like these are vary exciting to watch especially when you get up close. There are a few fast paced events during the dec holidays, go check it out. The photos below are mainly of three guys who at the end of our shoot entertained us and made some good photos by flying high through the air. On the yellow bikes where the twins Calvin and Damon Vlaanderen on bike nr 4 and 44 respectively and on bike nr 8 was Justin Tyler.
well thats it.
